[edit] [delete]

So recently an idea has been forming in my head for a superhero team. I'm not gonna reveal too much about it because I hope to make it a web-comic one day (but that's a ways off. Once we manage to get more on top of ARI I'll get a little more serious about it). But one thing I realized while making this team is how important a method of travel can be. I mean, what good is a superhero if he/she can't get somewhere in time to fight the villain?

I've got it mostly figured out, but there are a couple I still need to figure out. It's two heroes, and neither of them can fly or move at super speed, and I've already got a character on a motorcycle and one who gets around with parkour, so I don't want to re-use either of those.

Anyone got any ideas? One of them is super strong, so I've bee thinking of incorporating that by having him do something similar to Spider-Man or something, but I can't think of a good method. The other one is basically indestructible but no other powers other than being scary looking.

Are we talking efficient travel to streamline the story or inefficient (and hilarious) travel methods to sometimes be the story?

Going for efficiency here. And I've also made a slight update to my first comment to give a little more info on the other character.

Ack! I never followed up on this!

So... any good ideas I even remotely had seem to have been stated. Brachiating is definitely an option if there are enough grips. Super leaps have been suggested, as well the "functionally indestructible" one taking advantage of the fact by having it be thrown, fired or landed on. It might not be flashy, but it really does work as a good theme, with the story potential of "Oh, the super strong guy isn't here. The flyer isn't here, the super speedster isn't here... I think I need to find a cab with a really mellow cabby."

For the super strength one, what is his body build like? If he is truly super strong could he pull a Thor and throw something hefty enough hard enough that it would drag him behind? How hefty is the indestructible one? ;)

Since I'm late, here is a potentially horrible bonus idea unrelated to the question: consider "building" these guys in an RPG system that can at least remotely handle them. It is time consuming, but besides being something you can later post as a fun bonus when you need filler, it can help you think about the characters in a more rounded manner and give you a general idea of how they compare (at least if the game system used is good enough).

I guess a helicopter is out of the question?

I'll keep that in mind, but it seems like it'd be impractical to fly it around in a city

Maybe an invisible jet? Or an anti-gravity belt, rocket boots, jet pack, giant eagle, and teleportation are all good ways I get around.

When has Batman ridden on a giant eagle?

Batman has also used armor forged from the green light of will, and a giant mystic bat/human hybrid transformation at least once each to get from point A to point B,
I don't remember the giant eagle though, but then I'm more of a marvel fanboy

Could always have the two work together to get around. The Super-Strong one does the Hulk's leap thing while the indestructible one buffers the sudden deceleration at the end.

Would be especially fun if they don't get along since - if my memory of the Mutants & Masterminds RPG is correct - that would leave them some amount of time in the air to yell at each other.

That actually sounds really cool. With the way the story will likely be set up that might not work as their normal method of travel, but I absolutely love the idea of the indestructible one breaking a high-speed fall.

Well... if one of them has any kind of authority, the could do the old hold up a badge and say "I need to commandeer this vehicle to stop a crime in progress". Possibly make a joke about the vehicle never surviving the battle.

Alternatively, have one get a ride from the people they save as a favor for saving them (a'la the Kim Possible method)

For Mister Indestructible, the best idea I have for a in canon transportation method is a cannon. Aim, adjust power setting for the number of buildings in the way, and BOOM!

(Alternate plans say aim up into the air at a carefully calculated angle, compensating for wind speeds and the flight paths of the area, then boom)

Yes for someone indestuctible explosive propulsion is the way to go, or via catapult or fastball special or hanging on to trafic... lot of options really.

For a super strong guy there is mostly jumping, maybe a bicycle? He should be strong enough to power pretty much anything via pedals, provided they are strong enough too.

Also depends in what range they have to opperate.

Imprecise teleportation? Like they can aim it so they'll show up with ten feet of a point, but where they end up exactly is random. You can either say that they're guaranteed to not be teleported into a solid object, or have then pop in above the destination with a parachute so they can land safely.

Airdrops would work if they had wealthy backers, but I feel like super-strong users really don't take advantage of their increased jumping ability very often; seeing the Hulk bounding around and clinging to building faces was one of my favorite parts of The Avengers.
As for the invulnerable fellow, the best I've got off the top of my head is being launched by either the strong one or fired from some sort of cannon, which could be silly and would only really work from friendly, controlled areas.
edit: Oh, hey. Nathan and Guest beat me to both ideas.

Reached the present huh? It'd be nice, except it's not enough for re-runs while the game advances. At least you seem to be up to date

Stored Energy Vehicle

I like the idea of a stored energy vehicle.

Your strong guy could use a crank to start spinning a massive (density not necessarily size) disk at high speeds, essentially storing kinetic energy. After that they hope in the car/motorcycle/etc. and engage a drive wheel on the the spinning disk to pull energy off and away they go.

What about if one of them is followed by trouble... He doesn't have to go to the crime seen, hes already there because of something unrelated. If he goes to the shop to by milk, the bank across the road will get robbed... Goes fishing the day something happens at the docks... The Alien space ship crash lands on his tent while hes collecting wood for his camping trip... Hes the one that gets captured (what villain wouldn't want to steal Mr indestructible's powers) and taken to the out of the way base, or gets on the wrong vehicle with the minions and lands up there. You know, make it a running gag that it is "just his luck". Its not a superpower its a supercurse.

Go the way of Thor

The super strong one could throw the indestructible one and, assuming it's magic super-strength and only increases his weight when either incredibly convenient or inconvenient, grab on to him and fly away like old school Thor.
