Trying out something new today in doing a quick and simple movie review. Let me start out by saying that I quite enjoyed Thor: The Dark World, but there was one simple thing that could have been done to make it at least twice as good, if not more

Take out the first ten minutes.

The first ten or so minutes of the movie is a sort of flashback to a previous encounter with the bad guys, the Dark Elves. In those ten minutes, they tell you who the bad guy is, what their plan is, and even shows some of their secret weapons. As such you know exactly what to expect for the rest of the movie. As such, nothing is really a surprise.

Now just imagine how it would have been without that intro. You'd be just as confused as Jane when she absorbs the Aether. You would have freaked out when you first see the dark elves waking up. And best of all, you would have spent a good half hour wondering what that stone stuck into Algrim would end up doing.

As much as I enjoyed the movie, I felt that the introduction at the beginning of the movie was unnecessary and actually took away from the whole experience. So if you haven't seen The Dark World already, then do yourself a favor. Skip the first ten minutes.

What do you guys think? Did you like the intro or do you think it should have been left out?

Seems like an good idea. A lot of movies can be made or broken simply due to leaving in or cutting or even relocating the wrong scene. Now I do have a question... is there supposed to be an image for this update or not? I think all I can see is a broken image link.

I just tried switching from Chrome to Firefox and... is it just a line of text that matches the title of the "strip"? Not to be demanding, but if you could include any sort of reference image (it doesn't even have to be funny or the like) it would make this feel more like it fits.

I was thinking you could just create MST3K like silhouettes of the two of you (either the real you or your chosen avatars) and then use some promotional image (whatever is legal). If you can come up with a joke to put in speech bubbles coming up from the silhouettes, even better, but I am trying to keep it simple so that this can be a good breather for you two. Even just any promotional image from the movie that you could freely use would again be appreciated.

Otherwise yeah, I'm down with this idea. :)

There was supposed to be an image, but apparently the image got broken along the way...
I think the idea of silhouettes sounds cool, I might have to try that for next time.

Thanks for the feedback!

One thing that would greatly improve the movie is changing villains. The elfs are boring. They are doing evil things because... evil. Before the Aether is found they do nothing but sleep. FCOL, they casted 9th Doctor as the big bad, and he is completely wasted in this role!

Here is how I'd do this. The dark elves are searching various realms for Aether, including Earth. They have come way of predicting that Jane is going to fing Aether, so 9th in disguise is trying to get closer to her, either by appointing at position of her intent, or by picking a date with her. (Because her date was wasted too in this movie). After failing, 9th becomes a creepy stalker folowing Jane around until her discovery of Aether. After Thor gets Jane to Valhala, elves sneak into Valhala, not storm it, because at this point of the film suspence would make more effect then mindless action.

Also, Loki stole the show. For this reason, Loki's arc should be moved closer to the end of the movie. Sure, this way Loki's reveal in the end would be less effective (on the off chance you didn't see it coming), but instead the whole 2nd part of the movie wouldn't look like a filler to Loki's avesome adventure.
And final: in the movie the battle in Valhala overshadowed the final battle. This is why I think the final battle should be in Valhala. The perfect place for doomsday device is right at the Odin's throne ). So the elves (who by my script sneaked into Valhala at the first middle of the film) is now doing a full-scale invasion, which gives a chance to shine to all Thor's companions: not only Jane's gang, but his Valhala comrades too.

So, what do you think about that one?

That sounds pretty good too. Although my main problem with the final battle was the fact that a short while before Thor was getting his butt kicked by the Kursed, but then manages to hold his own just fine against the Aether weilding Malekith.

The suggestion kidra gave was just cutting or maybe moving 10 minutes of it so the audience was also kept in the dark about the McGuffin until it was officially revealed to the protagonists.

If we are allowed to majorly rewrite the movie the answer is obvious: its now "Loki: Doing Whatever Loki Does". He's going to steal the show because Loki is entertaining and easy to relate to (as a character) and they have a fantastic actor playing the role.

Yes, the same goes for Thor except for the ability to relate to him because he is the strong, handsome official hero who is heir to the throne of Asgard (even if he doesn't really want it) and who gets the girl and Mjölnir. ;) Though he isn't Mr. Perfect, with Loki it is just a bit easier. The thing is in a Loki movie he'd end up likely being the antagonist or dual protagonist as well, but... then again that is how Loki is here, so moving him to just the second half isn't going to make it better. ;)

Gah, I don't remember the movie enough to decide if I agree with your suggestion or not... which is because I hate it for other reasons. Namely the blatant fridging of Dr. Foster for most of the movie. She a helpless MacGuffin for most of it, even a literally unconscious object that gets lugged around by Thor for a while. They even had that "classic" bit where they have a female character slap the (former) villain, the joke being that she's so hilariously incapable of doing anything to actually hurt him that her anger is treated as CUTE. The writers want you to think that moment is badass, but it really isn't--it's insulting.

She's pretty boss in the final battle, and she has a couple of cool moments before she's rendered catatonic, but it's not nearly enough for me to want to sit through the rest of the movie ever again. And that's not even getting into how they kill Frigga purely for Loki's precious manfeels.

If you have to kill/ cripple a character to motivate another character, you're just a crappy writer.

As for improvements... well, I could easily see Frigga, who IIRC was the one who taught Loki magic and everything, faking her death in the attack in order to motivate her sons/ get around her stubborn ass husband. As for Jane, I don't remember enough of the movie to suggest a specific alternative, but she really needs to not be in a refrigerator for half the damn film. One thing they could do is make it Darcy who gets possessed, with Jane sticking by her, so you get some girly BFF moments too, and have them stick up for each other in Asgard and stuff.
