In many ways, the cleric (or other healing character) is the most important in the group. I don't care how big and tough you are, eventually you will need healing. Natural healing tends to stink, and potions get expensive real quick. So heaven help you if you lose your healer.

Who needs Clerics?

In most groups ive seen The Cleric is almost always overlooked, Not that long ago Me and Kidra started anew a campaign that went on hiatus, everyone but me changed characters but during the discussion it was clear none of us really wanted to be a cleric (even though we needed one...) Its funny because if done right clerics can be pretty boss but if you dont know how they work its no fun at all... Especially if you usually do fighting characters...
And then theres Blake who turns a Cleric into a Fighter....

Up Next! Things start to get dire!

Cleric- The healer

Feats- abilities to improve your character

Fighter- One who fights stuff

Icicle- a spell that shoots deadly icicles out towards a chosen subject

Crit- Critical, can either be a Critical hit or a Critical Miss if its a hit that is very very good it usually means you do more damage or sometimes other useful things, Critical Miss is the exact opposite very very bad, if its bad enough you could end up hurting yourself...

Hmm. Interesting idea. I'll keep an eye on this.

I love that last panel. I'm betting that Thor has a disadvantage that keeps him from casting spells, though.

Also, this sequence looks a lot brighter than I remember it being, but I guess it helps that it's still frames.

Not sure why its brighter... its all from the same scene which is very dark... eh it all works out I suppose!

Glad you are enjoying it!

DM: Are you asking for Thor's blessing? Levi is now a cleric. Enjoy your penalties.

In my experience Clerics only fall into two categories, the healer, which is usually how a person who doesn't optimize or is just not interested in searching through lots of books to find the right feat set to make a powerful character. And this is perfectly fine, every party needs a healer after all and the cleric is arguably the best healer in the game.

The other category is the Thor, much like we see here. Now, it is rare that a cleric will go fighter feats like thor is doing in this comic, but they will often be the the most powerful character in the party. Between the levels of about 5-15 clerics are the most powerful class in D&D in my opinion. Wizards are the only ones who top them and that is only at the high levels when they have ridiculous spells.

That said, the game gets very boring if every encounter is answered by the cleric giving +10 to all their stats and wasting the charging 500 goblin army in a single turn. So sometimes for the sake of balance, the best clerics are the buff clerics. The ones who aren't just for healing but for making the entire party more powerful.

I always liked fiddling around with Favored Soul. Make a Mystic Theurge with Sorcerer to dish out healing and buffs with your arcane artillery, or just go the full 20 levels to be a badass flying with bonafide wings while you swing your deity's favored weapon for great justice with one hand and dispense holy fire with the other.
That said, warrior clerics are awesome... I usually save them to be BBEGs.
