Initiative

I dont know if we have already talked about this but I'm tired so I'm talking about it anyways... :-p

Initiative is always a tricky thing, sometimes having the highest initiative is a good thing whereas other times it just gets you killed quicker... from my experience in a more difficult battle sometimes being in the middle is best because if you go first you may end up either doing next to nothing or end up taking a lot of damage or just getting insta-killed... whereas going last could also get you in hot water because by the time its your turn your options are a lot more limited... Going last also kinda sucks in big groups cause it can take FOREVER to get to you during battle... Well thats my opinion anyways... what do you guys think? In a battle is it more strategic to go first last or right in the middle?

Up next! Shortest round of combat ever!

I think it really depends on your class. Cause in 4e if your a rouge you get combat advantage if you go first/the enemy hasn't acted yet. Which means you get your sneak attack dam if you hit. where as for someone like a mage it would be better to go later because then they wont get the aggro towards them.

But you can delay your turn until more proper moment.

Today I Learned: that I use the word 'though' often enough to warrant some editing pre-post.

I tend to enjoy going early. The more foes my side can down before they get a turn, the less actions the enemy can spend against us.
In my first stab at Dark Heresy, I poured a fair amount of XP into boosting my initiative rolls; Agility was my main stat, since it governs dodging (my primary defense) and most of the sneaking skills, which constituted most of the rest of my abilities, so I pumped it into the stratosphere. It also applied to init, though, and I, not knowing what else to buy at my level, picked up Lightning Reflexes, doubling my agility modifier on initiative. Add in a +1 background modifier on top of that, and even when everyone else rolled a 10 and I, a 1, I usually went first.
The problem with that being that, under the dodging rules for Dark Heresy, single-shot damage like my sniper rifles is easy to avoid unless something's already burned one's once-per-round reaction on a dodge, so unless the enemy hadn't spotted us yet, I learned to delay until a full-auto spray from a teammate made some poor schmuck dance right into my sights. Delaying does leave a half-action free, so my absurd initiative wasn't a total loss; I was usually able to move to cover and/or a vantage point immediately.

Call me a nerd, but that's a Hmmwv(High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle), not a jeep.

This whole site is full of nerds, don't worry. Unfortunately neither of us are car nerds, so a mistake was made.
